Teresa Latham Thomas
May 9, 1950 - April 6, 2021
Teresa was born in Washington, NC to Lloyd and Mildred Latham. The family moved to Wilson, N.C. when Teresa was young, where she attended school. She graduated from Fike High School in 1968. She attended Atlantic Christian College after high school where she met Pete. They married in 1969 and moved to New Bern in 1974 after she graduated from Atlantic Christian College. Teresa knew at an early age that she wanted to be a teacher, and that dream was fulfilled when Maysville Elementary hired her as a teacher. Her teaching career spanned 26 years. She later taught at St. Pauls, Trent Park, Oaks Road, and Ben D. Quinn, all elementary schools. Even after teaching days were over, she continued to be a school volunteer at Ben D. Quinn and Bangert Elementary Schools. Her most sacred love was Camp Caroline. She started going as a camper at an early age and hated leaving there on the last day of camp to the point of crying all the way home to Wilson. After her camping days were over, she continued to serve Camp Caroline as a counselor and a director of camps for several summers. She served at Camp Caroline even in her latter years as her health was declining. She loved Broad Street Christian Church, having attended and serving various roles in the church for many years.
She leaves behind her husband, Pete; her two sons, Lee and Jess; three granddaughters, Lilly, Katelyn and Alexa; her daughter-in-law, Ali; brother, Watson; sister, Angie; niece, Kathleen; uncle, Dal and many cousins. Her pride and joy was her three granddaughters and attending their dance and gymnastic competitions. She also loved the beach and boat rides on the Bay River.
Her Service Will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday April 17th at Broad Street Christian Church, 802 Broad Street, New Bern.Visitation will be held following the service.
