Shizu Moeller

Shizu Maryann Moeller, (Tofumamasan), age 85 of Jacksonville passed away Wednesday August 17,
2022, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
Shizu was originally from Gushikawa City, Okinawa, Japan and lived there until she came to the United
States in 1965. She was a member of the Kenjin Kai in Jacksonville, NC. Mom enjoyed spending time in
her garden where she grew a variety of Japanese and American vegetables. Her love continued into
growing beautiful flowers throughout the yard. Mom loved cooking and feeding her village of family
and friends and making sure bellies were full with plenty of food to take home.
When mom wasn’t in her garden or kitchen, she loved to shop for Wok’s, garden tools, clothes, and
much more. Mom loved when Walter would bring home a big trout or drum, her eyes would grow big,
and she would have a grin from ear to ear. She also enjoyed fishing on the Seaview Pier in North
Topsail. Mom adored her grandson Finn, who she loved dearly. She found happiness when family helped
pick beans, tomatoes, and eggplant from her garden. Mom loved her family and friends and would do
anything for them. Mom never met a stranger, and her smile and positive spirit would light up any
room.
Preceded in death by her husband Edwin Moeller, she is survived by her daughter Nancy Dudek and her husband Walter, her son Lawrence Moeller, his wife Kim, and their son Finn. She is also survived by her siblings, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Shizu had a large family in Okinawa, Japan, and many dear friends.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday August 25, 2022 at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
