Shirley Britt Bell

Shirley Britt Bell, 82, of Pollocksville, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 19th at her home.

She was born July 23, 1938 to Andy and Hazel Britt of Mt. Gilead. Her father traveled with the sawmill and eventually moved to Maysville. During high school she played on the basketball team was inducted into the Beta Club. It was here that she met and married her high school sweetheart, Otis Bell. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage and had five children. She wore many hats as a seamstress, nursing assistant, medical courier, driver for Meals on Wheels, and most importantly a wife and mother. She was a member of the Pollocksville Methodist Church. She worked at Maysville Garment, as well as East Carolina Internal Medicine. She retired from ECIM after 18 years and lastly worked for Jones County Senior Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents Andy and Hazel Britt; her husband, Otis Bell; her siblings, Ruth Wade, Rachel Morton and Lois House; and great-grandchild, Josiah Bell.

She is survived by her children, James Bell (Vicki), Michael Bell (Sylvia), Kathy Daughety (Perry), Melanie Danza (Peter) and Sharon Bright; grandchildren, Darren Bell, Jaredd Bell, Loren Bell, Joshua Bell, Hank Daughety, Jeremy Daughety, David O'Farrell, Emily O'Farrell and Evan Bright; 8 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Sunday, May 23rd at Pollocksville Methodist Church at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends and family before the service at 7390 Hwy 17, Pollocksville, NC.
