Robert "Rob" R. Bodle




Robert “Rob” R. Bodle, 61, of New Bern, North Carolina died Friday, June 17, 2022, in Duke University Medical Center, Durham. Rob was the recipient of a heart transplant in February of 2022 and died due to complications. He was born September 4, 1960, in Atlanta, Georgia, son of the late Richard Bodle and Jan Jones Smith. Rob grew up in Bowie, Maryland and attended Towson University. Rob is survived by his wife, Cathy; his sister Lorrie Shearon (Kevin) of Clarksville, TN; his brother Alan Bodle (Lynne) of North Dinwiddie, VA; nieces Allison, Emily and Jennifer, his loving in-laws and nephews Matthew and Charles. He was preceded in death by nephew Gregory.

Rob started his radio career at WPOC Baltimore and went on to program stations in Sioux Falls, SD; Killeen, TX; and Huntsville, AL.; as well as country WCTQ Sarasota, FL. His last programming job was top 40 WERO (Bob 93.3) Greenville/New Bern, but health issues forced him to retire from radio. Rob loved cars and enjoyed working as a freelance motorsports photographer and occasional automotive writer. This led to his interest in racing. He raced Ford Mustangs in the SCCA series and later the Trans Am Series until he developed heart complications. Rob loved to travel and enjoyed spending time in the North Carolina mountains with his wife and dogs.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 on the grounds of Clarks United Methodist Church, New Bern, NC from 5 to 7 pm, 105 Clarks Rd. He requested that his remains be cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Donate Life of America (donatelife.net) and ASPCA (aspca.org).
