Robert Joseph Ostar




Robert Joseph Ostar passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022, after several months of ill health. He was married to his loving wife Andrea for 58 years. He leaves behind his daughters Carolyn Markowski (Alex), Kathleen Ostar (LibbieTobin), grandchildren, Anna and Greg Markowski, Izze, Lindsay and Hillary Ostar, sister- in law Gail (Peter) de Castro, brother in law Don Caivano and several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his sister Jean Johnson and sister- in- law Noreen Caivano.

Bob was born in Elizabeth, NJ. February 17, 1936. He graduated from Linden High School in 1954 and Lehigh University in 1958 with a BS in Business Administration. Bob was a member of Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity. He received his Masters of Business Administration from University of Harford in 1975.

He joined the New Jersey Air National Guard in 1962 and was an aero medic. He was discharged in 1965 as a Staff Sargent while working for The Bendix Corporation. After several years in New Jersey, the Ostar’s moved to West Simsbury, Ct. Bob worked for Pratt &Whitney, Hamilton Standard and the Corporate Office of United Technologies in Hartford as Manager of Accounting Operations. He retired in December 1992.

In 1992 the Ostar’s moved to North Carolina. We lived in Clayton for 10 years and then moved to Fairfield Harbour and built our retirement home on the Harbour Pointe golf course.

Bob enjoyed golf. He was President of the Simsbury Farms Men’s Golf League in Simsbury, Ct. Then after his retirement, he played golf several times a week in Fairfield until his health entered the picture. He was an avid reader. He loved music and played the clarinet and saxophone in high school and continued playing clarinet in the Lehigh Marching Band. He also was an avid bridge player.

The funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on 3005 Country Club Rd. New Bern NC 28562 at 10:30 am on Friday, February 24, 2023. Family to receive friends at 9:30 am. Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Catholic Church or Tunnel to Towers 2361 Hylan Boulevard Staten Island, NY 10305.
