Mattie Catherine Buckner Jones

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, Mattie Catherine Buckner Jones, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be at home with her Savior at the age of 77.

Mattie was born September 13, 1945, in New Bern to Luther and Sarah Buckner. She was one of eight children and has one surviving brother, John (Juanita) Buckner of Elm City, NC.

Mattie lived a life filled with hard work. She was dedicated to her family and the Lord. In her spare time, she loved to do crafts, shop for antiques, sing for the Lord, and traveling to different places. She loved the mountains of NC and TN. Her favorite time to travel was in the fall to see the changing of the leaves. She loved celebrating any holiday because it meant having all her family around. Christmas and Thanksgiving were her favorites because she got the chance to see more of all her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Earl Jones; two sons, Robert Allen Jones (deceased wife Elaine, and partner Joyce), Allen Jones; two daughters, Roxanne (Gilbert) Mays, Teresa (Russell) Williams; ten grandchildren, Erica (Zak) Hanna, Susan (Ricky) Alexander, Kelly (Bryan) Ruff, Lee Jones, Bryan Hill, Nicholas Benton, Heather Purvis, Bryson Jones, Chase (Kelsey) Williams, Lora Ashley Harrison; eight great-grandchildren, Abigail, Nellie, Bryan, Logan, Asher, Norah, Nashlynn and Callie; and lots of much-loved nieces and nephews that she thought the world of and her little furry companion “Misty.”

The family would like to thank everyone for all the calls, texts, food, and visits. It was very much appreciated. And a special thank you to her 3HC hospice care nurses.

A Celebration of Mattie’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at New Hope Baptist Church, 1990 NC Hwy 11/55 Kinston, NC 28504. Visitation will be held at 3:00 pm with the service following at 4:00 pm.
