Born, in Wake Forest, to John Raymond and Lelia Mae O'Neal, he never lived more than 10 minutes from "home". His parents preceded him in death, as did John Edward (brother), Lois (sister), and Louise (oldest child). Married twice, his previous wives also preceded him in death. Lewis Sr is survived by Annie (sister), Shannan (daughter), Lewis Jr (son), and six grandchildren.
Lewis Sr was a man of nuance, even if he didn't know the meaning. He enjoyed alone time, so he drove a truck for work. He loved engaging people, so he'd spend hours on the phone and took a PT job to meet people. He wouldn't ask for help but was willing to offer it to others.
Lewis Sr was always proud to work, no matter the job. He spent 25+ years at Ready Mixed Concrete company, and many years before that with Neuse Plastic. "Jack Rabbit" had a safety record any trucker would love to call their own, and the awards to prove it. He enjoyed "big breakfasts" and making cobblers and cakes. No one ever said he was less than "a good man", yet he was as human as the rest. He loved a quality funeral, I hope he would like his. Services are Friday August 26, 22 at Grace Baptist Church in Wake Forest. 6:15pm visit with the family, 7pm service with refreshments to follow.
Lewis Sr died, early Thursday morning, like he lived with eyes wide open and a smile on his face. From where he is now he would implore you to trust this truth, "In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10)."
