Joy Arleen Coleman-Rhodes

Joy was born on warm summer day July 10th, 1957, in El Paso, TX to Annette (Wiggins) Barnett & Julian Antonio Barnett, Sr. After the high school, Joy got married and began her own journey into motherhood and birthing her oldest son, William Dominic Coleman. Over the course of her life, she enjoyed baking, arts and crafts, traveling, reading, and listening to music. She has resided in El Paso, Los Angeles, Nashville, Cherry Point, Jacksonville, Greensboro and Okinawa, Japan.

Even though her spirit remains, Joy’s presence will be greatly missed by her family, friends and anyone that had the pleasure to know her. She was known for her incredulous kindness and genuine, loving heart. It was not common to see her with a smile and warm greeting for each person she encountered. Above all, the thing Joy loved most were her many children and grandchildren. Joy’s insurmountable strength and optimistic disposition along with her natural passion for a being mother is what motivated her most for her life’s endeavors.

Joy Arleen Coleman-Rhodes of Richlands, NC died peacefully January 7, 2023 at the age of 65.

Joy is survived by her children: Jennifer Yvette Raglan, (Arlington, VA), William Dominic Coleman (Charleston, SC), Jason Alexander Coleman (Augusta, GA), Sonya Renee (Coleman) Lynch (Cincinnati, OH), Nicholas DeVonn Rhodes (Lexington, NC) and Tatyana Elise Rhodes

(Richalnds, NC) and Grandchildren: Desi, LJ, Isaac, Joshua, Kayla, Eli, Brian, Lyam & DJ. Nieces: Chavaun, Jessica, Cheron and Nephew Wayne. She also leaves behind special friends and family : Hilda Arthur (goddaughter) and longtime friend Deborah Harmon amongst many more.

She is preceded in death by her parents Annette Barnett, Julian Antonio Barnett Sr and brothers Julian Barnett Jr, Jay Barnett, Brian Christopher Coleman (son) and grandson William Jude Barnett- Coleman.

A Memorial is scheduled for 5pm on January 14th at Kahlert Funeral & Cremations, Maysville, North Carolina. Flowers, donations and condolences may be sent to the family at 311 E. Franck Street, Richlands, NC 28574.
