James "Harry" Cummings

James “Harry” Cummings, 78 of Kinston, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
He was born on August 19, 1944 in Wilson, North Carolina to the late Luther Rance Cummings and Lillian Cleo Durham Cummings. Harry joined the United States Army at 17 years old and became a member of the 25th Infantry (CACTI) Division. After his initial tour and discharge from service in the Army he settled down in Kinston, North Carolina, married Jean Carol Jones, had a son, and became a Machinist Apprentice and Journeyman by trade while he worked at Mansfield Machine & Fabrication. He would later go on to work at West Pharmaceutical (formerly The West Company) as their top Machinist before retiring in 1997 and opening a partnership Machine Shop, C&W Machine with Mr. Joe Wilson. Harry was a reserved, patient and composed man; a great husband, father, uncle, and brother. He loved all animals (especially his dogs), would do anything for family, and was always a reliable friend to all. He is preceded in death by his brothers Stephen Walker Cummings and Joe Staten Cummings, two belated loving sister-in-laws Linda Tripp Cummings and Joyce Banks Cummings, and a niece Charmon Cummings. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Jean Carol Cummings, his son Thomas “Wayne” Cummings and his wife Herminia (“Hermie”) Balbuena Cummings, two sisters Jane Cummings White and Gypsy Cummings Wetherington and her husband Greg Wetherington; nieces & nephews include Stevie Cummings, Elizabeth “Liz” Cummings Rushing, Stephen Cummings, Joseph Cummings, Rodney Daugherty, Gwen Jones, Joe Cummings, Jeffrey Wetherington, Jeannie Wetherington Novakowski.
There is no service scheduled and immediate family will gather to have a celebration of life event at a later date.
