Helen Mercer Boyd

Helen Mercer Boyd, 87, of New Bern, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 8th at her home.

She was born October 2, 1933 in Jones County. At age 17, she married Richard Boyd and moved to Riverdale where she lived for over 70 years. She was a member of Croatan Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She worked at JC Penney of New Bern, where she retired in 1997.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eva and Fred Mercer; her husband, Richard Boyd Sr; her siblings, Betty Arnold, Leona Wiggins, and George Mercer; and son-in-law Ronnie Andrews.

She is survived by her children, Linda Civils (George), Cathy Barber (Mark), Sue Andrews, Eva Miller, and Richard Boyd Jr; grandchildren, Reid Boyd, Heather Lilly, Dare Bailey, Danny Perry, Josh Barber, Melissa Welker, Megan Andrews, Daniel Miller, Henry Miller, and Richie Boyd; great-grandchildren Charity Boyd, Khloe Boyd, Hunter Boyd, Jacob Lilly, Noah Lilly, Ryan Andrews, Nikki Welker, Andrew McCausley, Katrina Bailey, Haywood Bailey, Caroline Perry, Eloise Perry, Theodore Perry, Audrey Miller, Danny Miller, and Malina Smith; siblings Paul Mercer, Freddie Mercer, Roger Mercer, Johnnie Mercer; sister-in-law Gladys Boyd Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 11th from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm at Croatan Presbyterian Church, 6375 US-70E, New Bern, NC. The funeral will take place following the visitation with Dr. Reverend Rich Boyd officiating. A private burial will take place following the service.
