Hazel Burroughs Whitford

Hazel Whitford, 72, left this Earth, to join her Lord in Heaven, on August 12, 2021, after a lengthy illness. She was born on October 12, 1948, in New Bern, NC to the late Donald and Bobbie Burroughs. She is preceded in death by her sister, Linda and brother, Grady Burroughs.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Joe Whitford of New Bern; daughter Anne Marie Benjamin (Mike) of Reelsboro; step-daughter DoriJo Yates (Sean) of New Bern; grandsons Gary Green Jr of Grantsboro, Tanner and Devon Chandler of Texas, step-grandson Buddy Yates of New Bern, and great-granddaughter Maci Green, her little princess.

She is also survived by her brother Donald “Buster” Burroughs (Elke) of Greenville, Richard “Dickie” Burroughs of Alliance, sister-in-law, Mabel Burroughs of Bayboro, best friend, and cousin Delores Townsend of Grantsboro.

Hazel was a loving wife, mother, Nana, and sister. She enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to gospel music, playing card games, and watching HGTV. Hazel was a thoughtful and caring friend to everyone she knew and enjoyed volunteering at Carolina East Medical Center as a transporter until her illness made it impossible to do so.

A graveside service will be held at New Bern Memorial Cemetery, 1112 Chelsea Road, New Bern on Wednesday, August 18 at 10 am.
