Earl Edwin Giles

Earl E. Giles was born March 21, 1939 to Albert and Jeanette Giles in Merryville, Louisiana. He was one of eleven siblings. Earl graduated from Merryville High School, Merryville, Louisiana in 1957. He continued his education through various colleges throughout and after his military service. He earned an Associate Degree in Accounting from Coastal Carolina Community College, Jacksonville, NC in 1985.
Earl Giles proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty-four years from 1957 to 1981. He was appointed Warrant Officer in 1966 and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968. His last duty station was with Marine Wing Support Group—27, Detachment “A” serving as Maintenance Management Officer and retired as a Captain in 1981.
Upon retirement, Earl established his own business, Mr. Fixer Upper; he eagerly served those in our community by repairing, remodeling, or building additions to homes of Jacksonville and surrounding areas.
Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, bluegrass music, traveling, Stallion football, trading stocks, and collecting and selling coins. Earl loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed long talks with his buddies, and he cherished every moment that he spent with all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nobody was a stranger—he talked to everyone, and he was always there to lend a hand.
On Tuesday, December 29, 2020, Earl passed away at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In His infinite love and mercy, God called Earl home.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George, Austin, Robert, & James; and five sisters, Mary, Jesse, Anna, Mildred, & Katherine.
