Billy Gene Mitchell, 77, of Vanceboro, departed this life on December 1, 2022, at his home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Jessica Denise Mitchell, William Mitchell; grandchildren, Bethany Dawn, Eliyah Sean, Rachel LeAnn-Grace, Cora Jane, Liam Trynt; sister, Phyllis Wilson; uncles, Marvin Wiggins and Norman Wiggins.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Riggs Mitchell, second wife, Carol Griffin Mitchell, father, William Mitchell, and mother, Rebia Mitchell.

Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the Mitchell Family Cemetery, 1050 Streets Ferry Road, Vanceboro, NC with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Billy's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Billy Mitchell went to NC State where he majored in Forestry, after graduating Farm Life Highschool, and then so to not be drafted he chose to join the Navy in February of 1967 and served in Vietnam. After serving in Vietnam, he went to work for Weyerhauser in the Forestry Field. He then returned back to college in 1985 and earned his Associates Degree in Tool and Die at Craven Community College and went to work at Damco in Bridgeton, NC until he was disabled. After his disability, he turned his skills from metalworking to woodworking. He was an Avid Hunter and fisherman until unable to physically hunt or fish.
