William "Jerry" Chapman

William “Jerry” Chapman, son of the late Addie and William Chapman, was born on December 18, 1960 in New Bern, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on April 27, 2020.
He was raised in a Christian home and attended St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church in Maysville, North Carolina, where he grew up.
William attended the Jones County Public School System. In 1984 he moved up north to New York and later relocated to Connecticut where he worked as a custodian for many years. Later, in 2007, he joined FedEx as a package handler where he worked until his death.
William is a two-time throat cancer survivor. With all the trials and tribulations he faced, he remained encouraged and faithful that he would beat cancer. He was a fighter.
He is preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Mike and William Chapman; grandparents; aunts and uncles.
William leaves to cherish his precious memories, two daughters, Ashley (Yasmine) Mattocks of Maysville, NC and DeZirae Butler of Fort Worth, TX; one son, Wilkie Butler of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Edward Chapman of Jacksonville, NC, David Chapman of Hartford, CT and Delcarlo (Jessica) Chapman of Jacksonville, NC; four sisters, Tara Pearson of Jacksonville, NC, Lillie (Ernest) Rhodes of Jacksonville, NC, Monica Chapman of Belgrade, NC and Angeline (Warren) Harris of Fayetteville, NC; one uncle, Jimmy Boomer of Maysville, NC; five granddaughters, Strawberry Ray of Hubert, NC, Peaches and Cherry Ray of Maysville, NC, Eliah Butler of Fort Worth, TX and Maya Butler of Jacksonville, FL; one grandson, Miguel Butler of Jacksonville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 9, 2020 at Kahlert Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frances Boomer and Rev. Gwendolyn Brooks officiationg.
