James Patrick Tharp

James Patrick Tharp- Jacksonville

June 21, 1958 - March 8, 2019

James Patrick Tharp was born in Newark, NJ on June 21, 1958 to the late Talmadge O. Tharp and Winifred P. (Gallagher) Tharp. After a courageous battle with cancer, Jim peacefully passed on March 8, 2019. As a boy, growing up in Menlo Park Terrace, NJ, he played baseball and was an avid fan of the NY Giants. Later in life he resided in Toms River, NJ before settling in Jacksonville, NC. Jim was a hard worker and believed in strong work ethic. Most of his career consisting of roofing and bar management. He had a love for his grandchildren like no other and couldn't help but smile when they were in his presence. His gracious and loving manner will forever be engrained in the hearts of those who knew him.

Jim will be remembered as a loving  brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, James P. Tharp Jr. and spouse Tanya Tharp of Jacksonville, NC and daughter Sarah J. Tharp of Jacksonville, NC; three brothers, Charles T. Tharp and spouse CJ Tharp of Toms River, NJ, William Tharp of Jacksonville, NC and David Tharp of Hingham, MA ; sister Karen Tharp Kahlert and spouse William J. Kahlert of Maysville, NC; five grandchildren, Tiera Negron, Elias Tharp, Sylias, Jasper and Hyacinth Cook and 7 nephews and 4 nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday March 23, 2019 at Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Woody Whitt officiating, 904 Main St. Maysville, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Jim’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Dr. Robert M. Fales, Lower Cape Fear Hospice Wilmington, NC.
