Gerald Slocum Wroe of New Bern, NC, born December 10, 1934 to Gerald and Leola Wroe in St. Louis, MO, died peacefully on January 7, 2019 at the Crystal Coast Hospice in Newport, NC. He graduated from New Trier High School, Winnetka, IL and attended Lawrence University and the University of California at Berkeley. He then joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1961. Gerry was a media executive with broad experience in marketing and magazine publishing. He was a VP, Advertising Director, Family Weekly, CBS Consumer Publishing Division. He was the Director of Corporate Marketing, for Meredith Corporation. After retiring he was a founding board member of Featherstone Center for the Arts, Martha’s Vineyard, a non-profit arts organization. When he and his wife moved to Wilton, NH in 2002 he was the Director of Development for Northern Ballet Theatre in Nashua, NH. He was a board member of Wilton Main Street Association, Wilton, NH and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Wilton Public & Gregg Free Library. Gerry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Eileen Callahan Wroe, his children, Peter Wroe and Polly Knowles. His son Michael predeceased him. Step-children, Michael and Brian Callahan, and grandchildren, Tim, Jess and Cameron Knowles. He also leaves 5 step-grandchildren, Ryan, Connor, Logan Callahan and Jack and Julia Callahan.
