William Clen Mattocks Jr.

William Clen Mattocks, Jr., known as Clen Jr., was born March 12, 1961, to Clen Sr. and Christine Mattocks at Onslow Memorial Hospital. He was called home with his family by his bedside on December 28, 2018. Clen Jr. was raised in Belgrade, NC., and educated at Tabernacle elementary, Tabernacle Middle School, and White Oak High school. He excelled at Baseball, Football, and Basketball. In 8th grade, he won MVP in all three sports and was named the male athlete of the year. In baseball, he won the Babe Ruth championship in 1977 and won back to back high school state championships in 1978 and 1979. Clen Jr. attended North Carolina Wesleyan College and earned his Bachelors in Business Administration. During his time in college, he played baseball and became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. After graduation, Clen Jr. worked as a mechanic at Amital Spinning and delivery driver for UPS. He met his beautiful wife, Bernice Dixon at Amital Spinning, and they married on September 11, 1999. They shared their love and friendship for 19 years. He loved the responsibility of working and providing for his family. One of the highlights of his day was sitting at the dinner table and telling stories of his workday to his family. He also enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Bernice Mattocks; sons, Christopher Mattocks and Warren Smith, Jr., and daughter, Lasharn Evans; Mother, Christine Mattocks; Sisters, Cathy Brown and Samantha Wilkerson; Brothers Richard Mattocks and Jimmie Lee Thompson; grandsons, Richard Evans III, Ryann Evans, Tymir Smith, Micheal Smith, and Kyleith Smith; granddaughters, Alyssa Evans, Aaliya Evans, and Tristyn Smith.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday January 5, 2019 at St. Luke AME Zion Church in Maysville.
Interment will immediately follow the service at the Mattocks Family Cemetery in the Belgrade Community.
