Agnes Marie Roberts

Agnes Marie Roberts of New Bern went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2018 at the age of 74. She was born on March 29, 1944 in New Bern to the late Asa and Agnes Martin. She was the baby of the family and preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Gaskins. She enjoyed writing children stories, poetry and hallmark cards. When she became a "grandma" she wrote and illustrated a children series, "A Rabbit's Family" which she dedicated to her grandchildren. She sold her "Cards by Marie" in Baltimore, Maryland where she lived for several years after her youngest daughter left for college. Later in life her creative interest focused on music. She wrote the music and lyrics, sang and helped produce her first gospel CD at the age of 70. Her constant drive for creativity was seen in almost every aspect of her life. Those around her looked forward to seeing her latest furniture arrangements to her latest hair color- seldom the same. She was an avid cat lover and never turned away a stray cat. They brought much joy to her life, especially the last few years. Above all, she loved going out to lunch or out for coffee with her family and friends. Spending time with the people she loved was the highlight of her days. Survivors are: Son, Shane A. Roberts of New Bern and his wife, Barbara; Daughters, Dolly D. Roberts of Kernersville and Lisa S. Miller of New Bern and her husband, Tommy; 9 grandchildren, Lauren Godwin, Nicole Price, David and Ashley Roberts, Brooke Hobbs, Christian Walters, Morgan, Parker and Ashton Smith. A celebration of her life was held at her daughter's home on November 18, 2018. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Colonial Capital Humane Society.
