Billy Ray Drake

Billy Ray Drake, 78 of Cove City went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 17, 2018. Billy was born on November 6, 1940 to the late Curtis Drake Sr. & Zoda Smith Drake. He was also preceded in death by grandson Christopher Wetherington.  

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Evelyn Wells Drake of Cove City, Son Billy Drake and wife, Beverly of Vanceboro, Step-son Jerry Wetherington and wife, Phyllis, Step-son Steve Wetherington and wife, Pam, and Step-son Mark Wetherington and wife, Kristie all of Cove City. Billy is also survived by two brothers, Curtis Drake and wife Miriam of Kinston, and Bobby Drake and wife Edith of Snow Hill. He is also survived by his grandchildren John Wetherington, Tina Gray, Ashley Jones, Jacob Tripp, Susanna Tripp, Bradley Wetherington, Brandon Wetherington, Bradley Drake and Brandi Drake. Billy is survived by a special dear niece, Susie Boyd of Cove City. He also has several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Billy joined the United States Army in November of 1966 and served in the Vietnam War Era. Billy worked with Drake Janitorial Services in Kinston, NC for 40years and also delivered The News and Observer and cleaned the church for a number of years. He and his wife are members of the Wintergreen FWB Church in Cove City. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports, and spending time with his dogs that he loved dearly. Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be held at Wintergreen FWB Church, 2175 Wintergreen Rd. Cove City, NC 28523, on September 24, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be held on September 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Graveside will follow at the Wells Family Cemetery in Cove City.
