Nancy Louise Hagy Chiles March 14, 1939 - August 7, 2018 New Bern
Nancy Louise Hagy Chiles of New Bern died on August 7. She was born in Abingdon, VA on March 14, 1939 to Clifford Hamilton Hagy and Nan Louise Fraley Hagy. A graduate of Big Stone Gap High School and The College of William and Mary, she began her career with NASA in Hampton, VA. She and her husband, Robert Mahlon Chiles, Sr, moved to New Bern in 1966 where she worked for the Sun Journal. She was a Deacon, an Elder and Clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She has also served on the board of the New Bern Historical Society, The New Bern Garden Club, The Elizabethan Gardens, and The Bishop Memorial Home. Nancy truly enjoyed the many wonderful friendships she developed while serving her community through all of these organizations. She was most at home in her kitchen arranging flowers, preparing weekly Sunday school lessons, and playing bridge with her closest friends. She is survived by her children, Robert Mahlon Chiles, Jr., and his wife Amy; George Glasgow Chiles II and his wife Robin — all of New Bern, NC; and Mary Hamilton Chiles of Huntersville, NC; five grandsons — Ian Robert Chiles of Dallas, TX, Andrew McCoy Chiles, Thomas Ambrose Chiles, George Glasgow Chiles III, and Taylor Hughes Chiles all of New Bern, NC; her brother Clifford Hamilton Hagy, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Charleston, WVA, a niece and nephew, her sister in law Mary Chiles Ware and husband Hall and four nieces. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1069, New Bern, North Carolina 28563. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 11, at 11AM followed by burial in the church's Memorial Garden.
