Elaine Mattocks-White, daughter of the late Nursey Barber- Mattocks and Tony Allen, was born on November 23, 1943 in Maysville, NC. God saw fit to summon Elaine to his Eternal home on September 10, 2017 in Charlotte, NC.
She was born in Maysville, North Carolina, the sixth child out of seven children. She was a member of Mount Olive Christain Church since an early age. Elaine attended school in Jones County, NC, and later relocated to New York City, NY to begin her career in the medical field with the Veterans Administration Hospital. While in New York, Elaine married her husband, the late Eugene White (Jr.). After also relocating to Washington, D.C, Elaine continued to work for the V.A. hospital system, and later moved to Charlotte, NC. While in Charlotte, NC, Elaine was employed at Carolina Medical Center. After retiring from Carolina Medical Center, Elaine returned to her hometown, and served on the Board of Commissioners for the city of Maysville, NC.
She is survived by her daughter, Patrice Wright-Battey (Nathan) of Charlotte, NC; four sons, Daren Mattocks (Winelda) of Jacksonville, NC, Alan Mattocks (Shiretha) of Maysville, NC, Anthony Mattocks of Charlotte, NC, and Aaron Mattocks of Maysville, NC.
Elaine is preceded in death by her brother, the late Walter Swindell Mattocks, and is survived by five sisters and one brother: Evelyn Pointzes of Greensboro, NC, Emma Fonville of Greensboro, NC, Celia Boomer of Bronx, NY, Lionel Mattocks (Margaret) of Greensboro, NC Blanche Perkins of Maysville, NC, and Annette Powers of Silverdale, NC. Elaine also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Elaine will always be remembered by her love for music and dancing, unpredictable wit and sass, straight-forwardness, and her deep compassion of love for both her family and friends.
A Celebration of Elaine's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Mt. Olive Christian Church in Maysville. Interment will follow at White Oak Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Kahlert Funeral Chapel.
