Jerald Vittoro Ward was born in Jones County on January 16, 1954 to Oscar Ward, Sr. and Edna Daniel Ward. He departed this life at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, North Carolina.
Jerald was raised in Pollocksville, NC and attended the public schools of Jones County. He was a member of the class of 1973. He received his high school diploma and enlisted in the United States Army, working in the Air Defense Artillery. While in the Army he served at Ft. Bliss, Texas, South Korea, Ft. Hood, Texas, Schwabach, Germany and in Operation Desert Storm.
He departed from the Army and served as a correctional officer at Mark Stiles Unit and Larry Gist State Jail both in Jefferson County, Beaumont, Texas.
He met and married Annabel Brown and together they had four children. He later married Debra Yvette Dillard and to this union two children were born.
Jerald wasn’t very talkative and didn’t like crowds, but he loved his children and his family.
He is preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Jerald leaves to cherish his memory, his children: three sons, Deushawnba Ward of Dallas, TX, Jerald Ward Jr. (Jamie) of Dallas, TX, Eric Michael Ward (Deunbra) of Chicago, IL; three daughters, Aiesha Castello of Dallas, TX; Lakrisha Fields of Dallas, TX, and Yvette Corinne Ward of Los Angeles, CA; six brothers, Oscar Ward, Henry Ward, Darrell Ward all of Pollocksville, NC, Danny Ward of Hawkinsville, GA, Dedric Ward (Lanetra) of West Point, NY and Tavaron Ward of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Dorothy Clinton of Staten Island, NY; Andrea Moore (Herman) of Maysville, NC and Dominque Ward of Charlotte, NC; a special aunt, Mary Daniel Batts of Trenton, NC; 12 grandchildren all of Dallas, TX; his ex-wife and good friend, Debra D. Ward of Beaumont, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and a special friend along with her family, Kassandra Murrell.
A Celebration of Jerald’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday July 25, 2017 at Free Will Chapel FWB Church, 3298 NC Highway 58 S, Pollocksville, NC 28573. A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service at the church, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will follow the service at the Free Will Chapel FWB Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday July 24, 2017 at Kahlert Funeral Chapel in Maysville.
