Drury "Little Dru" Lester Verhoeff Jr.


Drury “Little Dru” Lester Verhoeff Jr., 30 of Holly Ridge, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday January 3, 2017. His life was tragically shortened by a motor vehicle accident.

Dru was a loving man with an infectious soul. He gave with no conditions, knowing no strangers. He was known by his bold, colorful personality and vibrant enthusiasm for life. His infectious smile will forever be engrained in the hearts of those who knew him.

He is preceded in passing by his paternal grandparents, Elton and Meredyth Verhoeff and maternal grandfather, John Julien.

He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Drury L. Verhoeff Sr. of Montana; mother, Lynn E. Verhoeff of Holly Ridge; fiancée, Julie Rankin “His Pixie” of Richlands; three sisters, Kelsey ”KelseMo” Wood of Swansboro, Samantha ”Numero Uno” Verhoeff (Luis) of Jacksonville, and Taylor “Traylor” Verhoeff (Ricky) of Jacksonville; 5 nephews, Karson, Jacob, Christopher, Jonathan, and Aiden; 2 nieces, Lillie and Julia;maternal grandmother, Erica Julien of Scotts Hill, NC; maternal grandfather, Leonard Mida of Bay City, Wisconsin; aunts, uncles and cousins. To all his friends and wonderful family of “Misfits”, he loved you with all his heart.

A “Drufest”, Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday January 8, 2017 at the Holly Ridge Community Center with Tommy Yopp officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm prior to the service. A reception will follow afterwards to include fellowship and a time of shared memories.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dru’s memory to the Special Olympics Onslow County, 113 Courtland Drive Jacksonville, NC 28546.
