Kathleen Jean Kitchen

Kathleen Jean Kitchen of New Bern passed away peacefully, surrounded by

her family, on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in

Newport, NC. She courageously battled cancer for almost 10 years. She was 70.

Kathy was born in Counsel Bluffs, Iowa to Francis and Veronica Meyer. They

later moved to Virginia where she was a 1964 graduate of McLean High School,

and attended Mount Aloysius College. She worked in accounting before retiring.

She had a passion for gardening and taking care of the wildlife in her yard. She

could name every bird by sight, or if she couldn’t see them, by their song. She

could also name every flower, if it needed shade or sun, and which zone it grew

best in. Her gardens are beautiful, full of roses, hydrangeas, and lilies.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Dennis Kitchen; daughters,

Jennifer Hopkins and Susan Zarriello; grandchildren, Matthew Herman, Sydney

Zarriello, and Brandon Zamrik; a brother, Gerald Meyer; and several nieces and

nephews.

The funeral service will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club

Road, New Bern, NC on Monday, April 18th at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
