Alena W. Nevels

Alena W. Nevels, 86, passed into eternal rest on August 14, 2015 at Craven Regional Medical Center. She was born September 17, 1929 to the late Willie White and Carrie Dennis White.
“Lena,” as she was fondly called, was born and grew up in the Silverdale community and joined St. Paul AME Zion Church. She received her education from Georgetown High School, Jacksonville, North Carolina. Lena was joined in holy matrimony to the late David Nevels and relocated to Birmingham, Alabama. Lena was blessed with a son Benjamin. They resided in Birmingham for over 20 years before returning to Maysville, North Carolina.
Lena joined New Faith Prayer House Church in 1980, under the leadership of Rev. Alberta Chadwick. She was a dedicated member and served on the mother board, sang in the choir and was a staunch prayer warrior. Lena had a melodious voice and loved singing hymns and gospel music. Her enduring faith in God never wavered even during her illness and she will be truly missed by her church family.
She was predeceased by her husband, David Nevels, four brothers, Charles, Samuel, Robert and Leo White and two sisters Hattie and Eloise White.
Today we feel a very deep loss but we realize that God never makes a mistake. She leaves to cherish her joyous memories, a devoted son Benjamin White of Maysville, NC, two brothers, Randy(Barbara) White, Rocky Point, NC, and James (Linda) White of Long Island, NY. One sister-in-law, Beverly White of Belgrade, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tho we’ll never see your face again, we are not afraid.... For we know that you are safe and well in a place that God has made.
Where peace is everlasting, pain and suffering no more,
You are walking on to Glory Land right up to God’s door.
And although we’ll miss you dearly, we have no regrets;
For God has wrapped you in His arms, and has taken you home to rest.
Humbly submitted,
The Family
