Preston Robert (P.R.) Jones

Preston Robert (P.R.) Jones, 88, of New Bern passed peacefully, surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly on March 15, 2015 at his home.

P.R. was a man who loved and lived life to the fullest. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in WWII and returned home to start a career in the U.S. Postal Service where he retired as a Post Master. He was a native New Bernian only leaving to serve his county and later to pursue his civilian career.

Throughout his life he made sure he had time for his music, one of his passions. He was a professional drummer with his own jazz band and later played with the renowned Bob Aster Band where he played along side many jazz greats. Anyone who knew P.R. has many fond memories that brings smiles to their faces.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Betty Lou. Four sons: Keith Jones of New Bern, Glenn Jones (Kim) of New Bern, Craig Jones (Rocco) of Garner, NC, Ben Griswold of Atlanta, GA. and daughter: Meg Holman of Chantilly, VA., Five grandchildren: Brie Jones, Taylor Holman, Riley Holman, Christian Griswold and Jonah Griswold.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charlene Guider officiating on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
