James Edward Daggett III
Newark, New Jersey.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and his son John.
Surviving him is Mary Ellen "Jackie", his wife of 61 years; his daughter Jayne Daggett McGinn, both living in New Bern, North Carolina, and his four grandsons Matthew, Andrew, Luke, and Caleb.
Jim was honorably discharged from the US Navy after serving 4 years in the Persian Gulf. He graduated from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. His career spanned 33 years with American Standard, first in Trenton, NJ; then in the corporate offices in Northern New Jersey, traveling the world as a Material Handling Engineer.
Jim was an avid fisherman and loved to restore and refinish antiques, not only for his home but for an extensive client base in New Jersey as well. He loved serving his church, singing in the choir, ushering on Sunday, or merely volunteering his time. His greatest joys in life were being a father and grandfather and celebrating their accomplishments, but above all, loving and serving his wife of 61 years (whom he swept up as a young handsome sailor at Virginia Beach) everyday of his life.
Jim always had a joke, had a smile to share, and never met a stranger. He was an amazing husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, and a joy to everyone who was lucky enough to meet him.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Craven County Hospice for the faithful, patient, and loving kindness they bestowed on us these last few months. They truly became family.
