Rita Diane Barg, 84, died on September 24, 2014.Rita was born in Brooklyn NY on April 5, 1930 toFreda (Bloom) and Irving Edward Blumberg. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin. She married Maurice Barg in 1955. They lived in Scarsdale, New York, Brookfield, Connecticut and retired to New Bern, North Carolina in 2002 where she became a member of the New Carolinians, the New Bern Yacht Club and other civic and social organizations and groups.

She remained active and passionate throughout her life. She was an avid antiques dealer, bridge and tennis player. She loved to garden and read while always enjoying the beauty of living near the water. She sold antiques at shows, in shops and on the internet. Every item told a story and she remained curious and open-minded about almost everything. She never, never slowed down. She traveled extensively, kayaked and boated, and loved to learn.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice Barg of New Bern; her son Peter, and his wife Abigail, and their children, Hannah, Alexander, Emma and Adina of St. Louis Missouri; her daughter Lori, of Plainfield, Vermont; and her daughter Meredith and her husband, Alan Stone, and their daughter Jessica, of Greenville, North Carolina; as well as nephews and nieces including Michael Farnsworth and Stephen, Linda, Karen and Barbara Gould and their spouses.

She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her. She will be remembered as a big-hearted, kind, curious and very independent person.

A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, October 2nd at 2:00 p.m at their home on 3000 Neuse River Drive in New Bern, North Carolina. All who knew her are welcome to attend to celebrate and rememberRita's life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
