Arthur Wade Payne: March 31, 1942 – September 15, 2014

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Wade Payne, 72, a much-loved husband, father and grandfather, on September 15, 2014 in Cape Carteret, North Carolina after his battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Wade was a fighter and an optimist to the end. He was a true servant of God and student of God's word. His biggest passion in life was to serve him and to spread his word. Wade has left a fine example of how to live by his words and his actions.

He was predeceased by his mother, Wahneeta Hensley; his father, Shelby Payne; and his two brothers, Jim and Jerry.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his beautiful wife of 48 years, Karen; five children, Kimberly, Todd, Kelly, Rodger and Kerry; a brother, Mark; two son-in-laws, Nathan Caldwell and Alan Asef; three sister-in-laws, Sharon Payne, Cindy Hodge, and Connie Payne; eleven beloved grand-children; Several loving nieces, nephews and relatives, as well as his longtime friend, Carl Mowry.

After serving in the United States Air Force in his early years, Wade went on to receive his degree in Theology from Baptist Bible College in Clark Summit, Pennsylvania. He started the Pleasant View Baptist Church and pastored there for about 10 years. Later on he accepted a position with the US Government Defense Logistics Agency during which he also pastored Preddy’s Creek Baptist Church in Barboursville,Virginia.

We remember Wade as one of the most genuine human beings with unshakable integrity, gentle wisdom, generous nature and unending optimism. His calm and soft smile always brought so much joyous light to his family, friends and strangers alike. He loved to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed his RV, reading, bird watching, and watching sports in his spare time. We can never forget his sweet tooth and love of Spudnuts Donuts, chewing gum, and Licorice candy. We will always smile thinking of his love for his new 1966 Chevelle SS 396 car. He picked up his wife to be, Karen, for their first date in that car and, as they say, the rest is history! We will always miss him and hold his memory in our hearts.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14: 1-3

Memorial gifts may be made to the MS Association of America (MSAA) online, Phone: (800)-532-7667, or mailed to: MSAA, 706 Haddonfield Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.
