David Mooers

David Mooers, 87, died peacefully on Tuesday September 2, 2014 in New Bern, NC surrounded by family. He was born in Biddeford Me to the late Charles D and Doris Shepherd Mooers on Sept. 26, 1926. He graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1944. He proudly served in WWII in the US Army Air Corps. He attended Port Arthur College in Tx and earned a bachelor's degree in Electronics in 1952. He worked for 30 years at the Portland Airport as an FAA electronics tech. During that time he installed and maintained the original ILS and later replaced it, without any loss of air time, with the technology that is still used today. He had a brilliant mind and proudly held 15 system certifications and also held every class of FCC license from 1950. He was a member for 25 years in the Maine State Police Reserve. He was a past master of the Orchard Lodge and the State Police Masonic Degree Team. He enjoyed traveling, motorcycle riding, dancing, designing/building houses and firearms. His greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life, Julie who he married in 1982. He is survived by his wife Julie J Mooers; a son Keith A Mooers of Biddeford Me; a step son John A Vigue of Woolwich Me; a step son Timothy J Vigue and his wife Debbie of Bath Me; a step daughter Michelle J Jensen and her partner Jaime Poulin of Windham Me; a step daughter Cheryl J Burks and her husband Tyrone of Suffolk Va; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There will be no public service. Donations can be made in Dave's memory to the National Heart Association or to the National Rifle Association.
