News Article from the JD News:

A longtime member of the Maysville community and former town commissioner passed away Monday at the age of 74.

Brenda Foy, who is survived by her son Michael, was a town commissioner off and on until 2009.

In addition to being a town commissioner, Foy served on the Maysville rescue squad and helped start the Frost Park Endowment Fund, which is part of the Jones County Community Foundation. The fund has helped support and make improvements to the park.

Jones County Commissioner Sondra Ipock Riggs said she and Foy were close friends.

“She would help anybody and was just a wonderful woman,” Riggs said. “She loved Maysville and the county so much. She was very patriotic in everything she did. When she believed in something, she believed.”

Riggs said putting sidewalks in Maysville was one of Foy’s goals, and the recent construction of sidewalks through the Safe Route to School program was the fulfillment of that goal.

“She said that it was so pretty to have sidewalks in a town,” Riggs said.

Maysville Mayor Edward Waltz said Foy had a lasting impact on the town.

“She did a lot for the town and was a big promoter of the police department,” he said. “We are going to miss seeing her around Maysville.”

Current Maysville Town Commissioner Bobby Flowers said he was sad to hear of Foy’s passing.

“I enjoyed serving with her on the board,” he said. “I never had any problems with her and she never had any problems with me.”

Maysville Fire Chief Michael Jordan said he had a good relationship with Foy when she was a town commissioner.

“She was very supportive of fire and EMS and she will be missed,” he said.

As of press time, services arrangements were incomplete and will be announced Kahlert Funerals and Cremations of Maysville.
